First Break July

First Break July 2011 issue starts off with Andrew McBarnet’s extended interview with the new EAGE president John Underhill. Underhill, among other things, talks about his private life and plans for the EAGE Board. This interview is followed by latest EAGE and industry news. The News Feature covers Ruud Weijermars article entitled “Time for Europe to face oil and gas supply realities and gas supply realities” in which he stresses the importance of formulation of a new EU energy strategy. The three technical articles focus on different subjects: “Complex salt model building using a combination of interactive imaging and layer-stripping RTM” by Bin Wang et al. “Analysis of vibrator performance at low frequencies” by Zhouhong Wei and Thomas F. Phillips “Factor analysis prediction of effective stress from measurable rock attributes and calibration data” by Dario Grana, Jack Dvorkin and Patrizia Cibin. What also makes this month’s First Break unique are the two special topics: Well Technology and Passive Seismic. The first topic introduces two papers: Tom Bradley, Douglas Patterson and Xiao-Ming Tang’s “Applying a through-casing acoustic imaging technique to identify gas migration paths in a salt body” and “Practical downhole production and reservoir monitoring with optical sensors” by Graham Gaston and Tad Bostick. Passive Seismic presents two papers as well: Bob Heath’s “Time to consider the practicalities of passive seismic acquisition” and “Identifying faults and fractures in unconventional reservoirs through microseismic monitoring” by Scott A. Wessels et al.
